Return of the 48 Hours – VR Edition
CineGlobe hosted the world’s first VR Edition of the 48 Hour Film Project in 2017, and now it’s returning for CineGlobe 2021. The 48 Hour Film Project has been encouraging filmmakers to realise short films of 4-7 minutes in Switzerland since 2008, and worldwide since 2001. And now, with the popularisation of 360 video, we’re renewing the challenge this summer to do it in Virtual Reality!
Filmmakers will receive a genre, prop, line of dialogue, and a character on Friday evening, the 20th of August. They’ll have until Sunday evening to conceive, shoot, and edit a 3-7 minute film in 360 video. The films submitted will be screened collectively the following weekend at the CineGlobe festival during the awards ceremony, as well as available through headsets or cardboard VR viewers. The winning film will be featured next year at Filmapalooza, the international festival of 48 Hour films worldwide that reunites filmmakers from over 150 cities around the globe.
The entry fee this year will be vastly reduced to encourage filmmakers to get back to work, and it will be applicable to the 48 Hour Film Project Geneva edition (the traditional short film edition) in October. So take advantage of this special summer opportunity, and mark your calendars for the weekend of the 20-22 August!
We look forward to seeing you in August at the next 48 Hour Film Project in full 360 degrees!
