48 Hour Film Project – Science Fiction

VR Edition!

For the first time ever, the famed 48 Hour Film Project will embark on a VR competition, in just one weekend!

In collaboration with the CineGlobe Film Festival at CERN, GoPro, the World VR Forum, and the Geneva International Film Festival Tous Ecrans, the 48 Hour Film Project VR Edition will invite creators to produce a 3 to 7 minute 360 degree film in 48 hours, in a genre of science-fiction.

As part of this inaugural event, GoPro will provide 6 Omni camera rigs for both a training period before the filmmaking weekend, as well as during the competition itself. In addition, training in Video-stitching software Kolor Autopano Video Pro will be offered to the 6 users of the Omni rigs, and computers will be provided.

The films will be screened during the CineGlobe Festival on Friday, March 24th, during a special evening programme. Each VR film will be shown on the big screen in the 16:9 Kolor viewer, steered by the film’s director. Then, the participants and public will be invited to share in an aperitif, where they will be able to watch the films again on Samsung Gear headsets while they speak with the participants about their experience.

This special support is only available to the first six teams to sign up, and they must guarantee their participation in all events. The event is also open to creators wishing to use their own gear, but they will not receive access to Autopano, the Omni cameras, or possible promotion by GoPro after the event.

The dates are:

  • Weekend of March 11-12 (day to be determined) – one day of initiation to the Omni and training on Video-stitching software Kolor Autopano Video Pro.
  • Weekend of March 17-19 – Filmmaking weekend at CERN
  • Friday, March 24 – Special screening event at CineGlobe

Don’t miss out, sign up now!
