Join us at the Parc des Délices, in Grand-Saconnex, just behind the mairie, for the 4th edition of Ciné en plein air, a collaboration between CineGlobe and la Ville du Grand-Saconnex. Entry is free, open to all, and accessible in English and French. Lawnchairs available to borrow. Reservations recommended for the workshops (see below).
To celebrate the CERN and City of Meyrin bid to host a stage of the Tour de France, we invite you to discover or rediscover a film that celebrates the world of cycling with humour, poetry and a generous dose of nostalgia: The Triplettes of Belleville, by Sylvain Chomet.

Workshop 1 – 15h – The Origins of Cinema – Discover the fascinating beginnings of cinema through iconic devices such as the thaumatrope, praxinoscope and zoetrope, which create the illusion of movement from still images. Draw your own animation for a zoetrope and experiment with how it works using an individual device. From 10 years – children aged 6–10 welcome with an accompanying adult.
Workshop 2 – 18h30 – 35 mm Film – Step behind the scenes of analogue cinema and discover the essential role of 35 mm film, the historic medium that helped shape the way we watch and appreciate films. Examine original film prints on an old Moviola, discover how optical sound works, and create animations by engraving directly onto film. Explore the very materiality of cinema and experience film in a whole new way. Ages 12 and up – children aged 6–12 welcome with an accompanying adult.
Open air film projection – 20h30 approx. – The Triplettes of Belleville, by Sylvain Chomet, France, 2003 – 1h18 – legal age: 10 years.
In this extraordinary, almost dialogue-free animated film, cycling, music and images tell the story. When Champion, a young cyclist tirelessly trained by his grandmother Madame Souza, takes part in the Tour de France, he attracts the attention of a mysterious group of gangsters who kidnap him. Determined to find her grandson, Madame Souza sets off in pursuit and crosses the Atlantic to Belleville. There, she joins forces with three former music-hall stars—the eccentric Triplets of Belleville—who help her in this wonderfully surreal adventure. Part cycling tribute, part offbeat satire and part musical whirlwind, The Triplets of Belleville is a film like no other: funny, tender, strange and wonderfully inventive. A true gem of animation to enjoy with the whole family, under the stars.
