The 13th edition of CineGlobe will take place from May 15 to 19 at The CERN Science Gateway and CERN IdeaSquare !
This festival inspired by science of all kinds will feature short film screenings, hands-on workshops, immersive experiences and special evenings accessible to everyone.

CINEGLOBE SHORT FILMS COMPETITIONS
Under the theme of “Now or Never”, this year’s CineGlobe explores the different choices and challenges facing individuals, society and the planet, as well as possible solutions – whether natural or invented. Whether through personal, energy, climate or security crises, urgency is omnipresent. What role should science and technology play (or avoid) in resolving them? Through cinema and other forms of artistic expression, CineGlobe will enable you to ask yourself all these questions and more. In addition to the usual core of the program in the form of short films competing in the three now customary categories (fiction, documentary and youth), this edition of the festival will welcome a selection of elite-level virtual reality productions that have already blown away many participants at other festivals around the world. What’s more, a new workshop on 360-degree filming will be offered (registration required) to complement the CineGlobe classics, namely “home-made” camera making using TetraPak boxes, and hand animation on film and viewing on Moviola machines.

CINEGLOBE X MAPPING FESTIVAL 
This year’s program also includes two new features. Firstly, the evening of Friday May 17 will be dedicated to an exploration of new transdisciplinary works produced in partnership with the Mapping Festival, whose 20th edition takes place in Geneva from May 10 to 26. In addition, on the evening of

CINEGLOBE X RENEGADE SAINTS
Thursday 16th, the Renegade Saints, a Geneva-based international improvisational theater troupe, will put on an original performance, inspired by extracts from the short films in the main program.

CINEGLOBE X CERN70 WITH TIM BERNERS LEE
To round off the festival and as part of the celebrations to mark CERN’s 70th anniversary, a special event will take place on Sunday afternoon, May 19. It will highlight the impact of CERN’s extraordinary collective efforts throughout its history, right up to the present day. Video projections will accompany discussions between specialists, including Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the World Wide Web at CERN in 1989, revolutionizing information technology and hence society as a whole.

CINEGLOBE OPEN AIR 
The CineGlobe festival, which takes place in the CERN Science Gateway piazza and its auditoriums, is also the perfect opportunity to discover the permanent exhibitions, the Big Bang café and other CERN activities for visitors, if you haven’t already done so. Access to the event is free (registration required for evening events via www.cineglobe.ch the 22nd of April), and almost all content will be available in both French and English.
