CineGlobe programme launched!

It’s here at last! After over a year of postponement because of an ever-changing pandemic situation, we’re finally able to officially announce the full programme for the 10th edition of CineGlobe, the international film festival at CERN, inspired by science! We’ve summarised the highlights for you below, and you can see all the details, including access conditions and sign-up information here.

Registration

The daytime screenings, VR headset distribution and food area are accessible to a limited number of people on a first-come, first-served basis, with mandatory registration upon arrival.

The workshops and evenings events are accessible to a limited number of people and can be booked in advance via their respective pages on our website (we expect these to sell out, so advance booking is strongly recommended).

Short film screenings

We have selected 54 short films from over 1000 submissions across film, documentary and youth categories, and sorted them into eight general sessions plus one session especially for families with young children (all sessions are 40-45 minutes long and start every hour from 12h until 18h). The general sessions are all shown at least twice during the festival, at different days and times. The family session is at 11h00 on Saturday and Sunday.

Masterclasses and other special screenings

Wednesday-Friday at 18h, experienced filmmakers will give insights into their work, from VR to DIY Documentary Production.

There will also be special screenings of the best short films from the first nine editions of CineGlobe on Sunday, and the results of the third VR edition of the 48-hour film project (there’s still time to sign up to take part in that here) taking place on the weekend of 20-22 August.

Virtual Reality cardboard distribution

Every day in parallel to the short film screenings, we will be distributing foldable cardboard headsets for you to take home and discover the world of virtual reality, including the immersive projects selected for our competition this year (while stocks last).

Workshops

Get hands-on with the basic principles of film and photography in our Moviola Animation and Tetra Pak Camera workshops! There is one of each on Wednesday-Friday and two on Saturday and Sunday. Places are extremely limited, so make sure to register in advance.

Tip: combine a workshop with a family session of short films!

Evening events

Every evening, we will screen a feature-length movie inspired by science followed by a discussion, with topics ranging from the ethics of artificial intelligence to the theory that the Earth is flat. The only exception is Saturday, when we will host our awards ceremony, celebrating the winners of this year’s jury and audience competitions in each category.

Evening events start at 20h, except on Sunday when it starts at 18h. Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before the start (or come earlier and take advantage of our food truck!).

Online

Not in Geneva on 25-29 August? Evening event sold out? Don’t worry, you can still watch all the short films in the competition and a selection of masterclasses and features online.
