Programme Announced

CINEGLOBE, Film Festival at CERN

From the 24 – 29 March at the Globe of science and innovation of CERN

CineGlobe, International Film Festival at CERN, opens its doors from the 24th to 29th March 2015, at the Globe of Science and Innovation. The theme of this year’s edition is the Convergence of art, cinema and science.

The public will discover more than 60 short films from around the world, inspired by science and technology. On weekend mornings, children of all ages will be able to attend special screenings dedicated to families – bring the entire bunch!

Every evening, the festival organises special soirées in order to explore narrative in all of its forms. How do science and new technologies change our ways of telling stories, how does storytelling change our technology, and how does art change our understanding of science?

A fabulous installation this year – in the form of a geodesic dome will encourage the public to lose their heads in the stars, and to explore the mysteries of dark matter, thanks to never before seen 360° projections. Free workshops will also teach photographic techniques such as making your own pinhole camera from a milkbox!

The festival will come to an end with the wonderful documentary The Ring, by Bram Conjaerts, in the presence of the director. The film follows the 27 kms of the LHC and searches to hear from the real "neighbors" of CERN. If you were in the film, CineGlobe is looking for you to attend!

The complete programme and reservations can be made through www.cineglobe.ch
All of the festival events are free, but reservations are required for some evenings (space limited).

Avant-première in Switzerland.
Symmetry
, by Rubben Van Leer is an Opera film that tells the story of love and dance at the birth of the cosmos. The film takes place at CERN, inside the LHC, the most powerful and largest particle accelerator the world has ever seen. The film will be followed by Symmetry Unravelled, by Juliette Stevens. Symmetry Unravelled tells the story of the making of the film symmetry. The two were filmed deep under the ground inside CERN and it’s detectors and far above sea level on the endless Bolivian miniral landscape Uyuni. Collaborating artists and renowned physicists unravel the relationship between art and science.
Opening Night, Tuesday March 24th at 20h, followed by an aperitif.
