CineGlobe, International Film Festival at CERN, in collaboration with Festival Tous Ecrans, to promote a workshop dedicated to Science and Interactive Storytelling.

For the second consecutive year, CineGlobe – the International Film Festival at CERN – and Festival Tous Ecrans join forces to launch the “Storytelling Science” Hackathon, in collaboration with the Tribeca Film Institute and the LIFT Conference.

The event will consist of five workshops spread over five weekends between March and November. The first workshop will be held at the CineGlobe Festival on the 28th and 29th March, 2015; and the projects that emerge will be presented at the 21st edition of Festival Tous Ecrans – from the 6th to 14th of November. Workshop sessions will be organized at CERN’s IdeaSquare, as well as at the Locarno Film Festival Industry Days. The “Storytelling Science” Hackathon will be officially launched at a special event during the CineGlobe Festival at the Globe of Science and Innovation at CERN – from the 24th to 29th of March 2015.

photo_hackathon2This workshop aims to create stories from Science and Science from stories. The projects will be nourished by expertise from CERN, BBC Storyville, the Tribeca Film Institute, Apelab, Mapping Festival and others. After a first purely transmedia hackathon in 2014, this second edition will focus on creating projects in 3D for the virtual reality headset Oculus Rift, then presented and made available to the public at the 21st edition of Festival Tous Ecrans. The objective of the 2015 hackathon is to converge science and cinema through a fully immersive narrative that places the viewer at the center of the story.

Applications for the “Storytelling Science” Hackathon are being accepted until 6 March 2015. In order to form hybrid teams, we are looking for young creators, scientists, and technologists to participate in this unique experience in Switzerland! Applicants must be between 20 and 35 years old, be Swiss citizens or resident in Switzerland and be able to demonstrate a regular activity or training in the field of film, television, animation, 3D, digital creation, webdesign, programming / software development, media design and/or new technologies, as well as scientific disciplines.
